What a great day for an announcement with executive director Angela Campbell, board chair Mel Norton and MP Wayne Long at the beautiful Imperial Theatre in Saint John. 🎭

The Imperial Theatre in Saint John is receiving funding to support its programming and renovations.

“We are pleased to provide funding to support upgrades to this historic theatre that will make their programming available and accessible to everyone,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace. “With this support, the Imperial Theatre will continue to be an important venue for performing arts and culture in the province.”

Scott-Wallace spoke on behalf of Réjean Savoie, minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

The funding will allow the facility to maintain its programming, including the annual multidisciplinary performing arts series, and make improvements, such as new front doors, a theatre stage cloth, renovated washrooms and the purchase of a small boom lift.

“The Imperial Theatre has a rich history and is a cultural landmark in beautiful Saint John,” said Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long. “I am thrilled that the Government of Canada is investing in the programming and restoration of this facility as it continues to provide this region with outstanding artistic performances.”

Long attended for Canadian Heritage Minister Pascale St-Onge and federal Rural Economic Development Minister Gudie Hutchings, who is also minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

The funding includes $70,000 from the provincial government, $170,000 from Canadian Heritage through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, and $88,343 from ACOA.

“Imperial Theatre is proud of its community spirit and our meaningful reach to connect and engage people through the performing arts,” said Angela Campbell, the theatre’s executive director. “This funding expands opportunities to reach audiences through innovative programming and outreach. The capital improvements which will replace the existing wooden front doors, along with upgrades to the washrooms, ensure universal accessibility for people from all walks of life.”

Nothing makes me prouder than seeing our beautiful province given the spotlight on the international stage. This is amazing….CNN Travel has named Saint John one of its Top Places to Visit in 2024, joining the ranks with destinations like Greece and Spain. Well, I say come one, come all to our amazing neck of the woods where the Bay of Fundy offers spectacular views and adventure, incredible food is served, and the people who live here know how to show visitors the very best time!

Across New Brunswick folks know how to roll out the red carpet in a big way. I applaud the tireless work of our #ExploreNB team in inviting travellers from around the globe to experience our province.

We can’t wait to greet all our new tourists in 2024…they’re going to love it here. 🙂
