Well Sussex sure rolled out the red carpet for a visit from Communities in Bloom judges Berta M. Briggs and Andrea Bocsi. Hopefully they left the community today with rave reviews in mind as they judge how Sussex stacks up against other communities of similar size in terms of beauty and quality of life. Congratulations to the incredible Sussex CIB volunteers who have again worked so hard to showcase this amazing town, and thank you Mayor Marc Thorne and town staff for being so supportive. 2023 North American Indigenous Games in Halifax

A contingent of 150 athletes, coaches, managers and chaperones from New Brunswick are participating in the 2023 North American Indigenous Games in Halifax.

The Games, which is the largest multi-sport and cultural event ever to be held in Atlantic Canada, will bring together more than 5,000 athletes, coaches, and mission staff from more than 750 Indigenous Nations across North America.

Congratulations to the talented young athletes who are competing at this important international event, and thank you to the coaches, managers, and other support staff who make up Team NB for your dedication. New Brunswickers are proud to support you and are behind you 100%!

There are 16 different sports, with three traditional Indigenous sports, including box lacrosse, 3D archery and canoe/kayak. Other sports include athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, golf, rifle shooting, soccer, softball, swimming, wrestling and volleyball.

New Brunswick athletes will compete in eight sports.

“These Games serve as an important opportunity to promote and celebrate Indigenous culture, and they play a vital role in Canada’s efforts toward reconciliation,” said Aboriginal Affairs Minister Arlene Dunn. “I am excited to be a part of the fan club cheering for Team NB and honoured to be part of a historic event that recognizes the importance of reconciliation.”

Support for Indigenous athlete development is recognized in the Calls to Action set out by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

Hospice Sussex Drop-In at Picadilly Coffee Roasters

It was a pleasure to visit the team of Hospice Sussex for coffee this afternoon during their drop-in at Picadilly Coffee Roasters. Executive Director Stefanie McFarlane and the trained volunteers offer compassionate support to families facing loss and life limiting illness. These are incredible people. Next time you are into Picadilly be sure to pick up a bag of Hospice Sussex coffee to lend support to the excellent work they do.
